PM-chaired Demographic Council discusses needs for improvement of indicators

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday led a meeting of the state Demographic Council to discuss “current demographic trends” and needs for improvement of indicators across the county.

The Government Administration said a study had been launched to identify causes for declining demographic indicators, possibilities for improvement and barriers that hampered demographic advancement.

Council Members discussed “alarming” statistics of abortions and highlighted the need of planning ”additional measures”, the body also said.

Members of the Interagency Work Group submitted a package of initiatives developed for the improvement of demographic indicators in the country, including extension and expansion of current programmes and launch of new ones.
