Gov’t meeting discusses job support, migration, healthcare for improving demographic trends

The Council for Demographic Issues of Georgia met on Thursday to review challenges and opportunities in employment, healthcare, migration and education in a bid to develop plans for improving demographic trends in the country.
The Government Administration said the Council’s meeting involved discussion on developing and implementing “various programmes” and improving current initiatives for the objective.
As part of the work, the country’s Health Ministry will present a bill for related efforts at the next meeting of the body.
Georgian civil agencies registered 26,048 marriages across the country in 2022, with the figure marking a 12.5 percent increase year-on-year, while the number of divorces equalled 14,098 and a 32.3 percent increase, the National Statistics Office of Georgia said on Thursday.
While almost one third of the total population of Georgia lives in the capital city of Tbilisi, new figures released by the Justice Ministry show an increasing number of people moving from cities to countryside locations.
