Georgian, Azerbaijani diplomats hold political consultations on ties, regional matters

Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan and developments in the South Caucasus region were discussed on Monday in a meeting between the Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia and his Azerbaijani counterpart Khalaf Khalafov.
Hosted as part of political consultations between the two states, the meeting discussed the existing “close” cooperation between the two countries, which the sides said was “successfully developing both in bilateral and multilateral formats”, the Georgian foreign office said.
The officials expressed their willingness to “further” deepen bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, culture and other fields.
The conversation also focused on the situation in the region, challenges and peaceful solutions.
The parties noted the importance of peace and stability, and the special contribution and cooperation of Georgia and Azerbaijan for a stable development of the region.
The meeting also reviewed delimitation and the demarcation of the state border between the two countries, and the possibility of holding another session of state commissions on the matter.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday said the security and prosperity of Georgia contributed to global stability and noted he was honoured to participate in the World Economic Forum’s panel discussion on Eurasia’s Middle Corridor.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday said he “greatly” appreciated the efforts of “his friend”, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili for holding a meeting between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Tbilisi in July.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday hailed the “very important, historical” projects implemented with Azerbaijan, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the Black Sea Strategic Submarine Electricity Cable projects, noting the relations between the countries have been “tested by time” and “at the highest level”.
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov on Thursday said relations between Georgia and his country had reached the level of “strategic partnership” in recent times, in comments made during his ongoing visit to Tbilisi.
The importance of the strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Derek Mitchell, the President of the National Democratic Institute, an American non-governmental organisation.
