Georgian cooperative’s product wins platinum for quality at London Honey Awards

Ninotsminda Honey - Alpida, a product made by the Georgian cooperative Kodi, has won the platinum medal for quality at this year’s London Honey Awards, the cooperative announced on Friday.
Organisers of the awards noted the Georgian company was providing “high quality beekeeping products”.
“The standards are set high with this honey”, they pointed out in their profile for the producers, who established their cooperative in 2017.
The competition combines product quality with packaging design in its evaluation, and is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the honey industry, with over 250 manufacturers entering its annual contests.
Kodi presented its products for the first time at the Awards in 2021, with the support of the Embassy of Georgia in the United Kingdom, and won a silver medal. The same honey product received another silver at the following year’s event.
Three Georgian honey producers have received Silver Quality Awards at the London International Honey Awards 2021, announces the Embassy of Georgia to the UK. Companies Nena, Rukhi Queen and cooperative Kodi were named winners among 290 honeys submitted from 20 countries.
10 tonnes Georgian honey has been exported to Italy, says the National Food Agency.
Honey from Ninotsminda, the Samtskhe-Javakheti region has been added to the list of geographical indications.
The presentation of the publication Georgian National Guidelines for the Production of Quality Honey was held at Expo Georgia on November 14.
Summer Fancy Food Show, the biggest speciality food industry event in North America, featured 16 Georgian food and beverage companies last week, Enterprise Georgia, the state programme for promoting entrepreneurship, said on Tuesday.
Georgia’s National Intellectual Property Centre on Sunday said the export of Georgian honey increased, noting that in 2021 the export of honey amounted to $402,098, while in 2020 the figure was $29,053.
