10 tonnes Georgian honey has been exported to Italy this year, says the National Food Agency.

In December 2016, the European Commission positively assessed Georgia's state control system and included Georgia in the list of third countries from which honey is allowed to be imported into the EU.”

The admission of Georgian honey to the EU market was preceded by the consistent policy of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and the relevant procedures by the National Food Agency for approximation with European legislation,” says the agency.

The National Food Agency says that laboratory facilities have been improved in the country and the research methodology on various parameters of honey has been introduced in the Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The announcement of the agency noted that various activities have been carried out to better inform beekeepers, as a result of which the number of violations has significantly decreased.

Georgian honey is also exported to Germany and the United States.
