From the capital city of Tbilisi to the highland north-western town of Mestia, Georgia is celebrating Independence Day today with exhibitions of military hardware, shows and educational activities.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs is hosting celebrations in the Black Sea city of Batumi, where the main events are hosted at the Alphabet Tower. Agencies under the Ministry are represented with stands to demonstrate their work to the public.

The Patrol Police Department is presenting its Smart City concept highlighting traffic regulations, with employees from the body inviting visitors to be involved in “various activities”, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The Public Safety Management Centre will offer visitors to participate in national scenarios on emergency situations, while those joining the programme will also be able to listen to emergency calls at its stand.

A mock crime scene is set up by the Forensic Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with young visitors invited to find, remove it and seal evidence under their mentors.

The Service Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will host young visitors in a “simulated city” and offer them to pass theoretical and practical tests to receive a “bicycle rider licence”.
The Emergency Management Service will present an informative show with the participation of fire crews and rescuers, while also hosting a wall climbing corner and other activities for children.
In its section, the Border Police will present special equipment for both coastal and land-based border control, while the Security Police will set up a mock safe house for visitors. With the help of mentors, children will wear the service’s uniforms and learn tasks of the professionals.
The Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will offer a simulated theoretical exam, with those passing it accessing a virtual shooting range space.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development will celebrate Independence Day in the highland cities of Mesita and Ambrolauri.

In city centres of the two locations, educational and entertainment spaces, exhibitions and sale of products by local entrepreneurs will be hosted.

In spaces for young visitors, games and classes for drawing, calligraphy, sculpture and more will be run by organisers.
Concerts will also mark this year’s occasion throughout the day in all 15 cities.
