Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday laid a capsule in the foundation of one of the 11 apartment blocks being built to house internally displaced families in Tbilisi.
The symbolic event marked the launch of the construction of the blocks with 2,400 flats, built on Tvaltchrelidze Street in the capital in a ₾245 million ($96.85mln) project set to complete by late 2025.

Garibashvili also announced other residential building projects would house 1,700 families in the western city of Zugdidi, 800 in the central-eastern Rustavi, 700 in the western hub city of Kutaisi and 150 in the central resort town of Borjomi.
In total, almost 7,000 families will receive fully renovated flats in these newly built buildings. This is a very important project, on which almost ₾700 million ($276.72mln) will be spent in these two to three years”, the PM said.

Garibashvili also said 30,000 IDP families had been provided accommodation under the Georgian Dream Government since 2012.
“This is about 100,000 people [...] It is our responsibility to take care of our displaced people as much as possible, to create decent conditions [...] But, of course, our main goal should be to return to [the occupied regions of] Abkhazia and Tskhinvali [the IDPs fled from]”, Garibashvili said.
