Georgian FM hails PM’s visit to Iceland, highlights “promising conversations” regarding country’s EU integration

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Wednesday evaluated Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s visit to Iceland and highlighted “interesting and promising” conversations on Georgia’s European Union integration between PM and the country’s partners.

In his address at the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe, the Head of the Government briefed the participants on the “dynamics and progress” of Georgia, as well as the “concrete steps and results” of the country’s Government on the European integration path, Darchiashvili said.

They listen to the PM with great attention, and this also creates a positive aura and mood, so that their support, their positioning in relation to Georgia be positive, [it] certainly gives us essential optimism and enthusiasm in this very important work [for European integration]", the Foreign Ministry cited Darchiashvili.

We reviewed, in different formats, the legislative processes implemented in Georgia” for the fulfilment of the 12 recommendations outlined by the EU for granting the country the membership candidate status, the FM noted.

The Georgian diplomat highlighted the importance of Garibashvili’s participation in “the most important” roundtable discussion, within the framework of the Summit, on strengthening democratic resilience amid challenges in the world, and emphasised “the great impact” of holding the fourth Summit in the “current global geopolitical environment”.
