Georgia will host the first adventure marathon for tourism professionals - Mta-Mta Guide Marathon starting from Monday till the end of the week, the Georgian National Tourism Administration said on Saturday.
The “exciting” seven-day Landmark Adventure expedition, run by the Adventure Tourism School, will begin from Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, with five teams of 20 certified guides taking part in the marathon and will have to overcome challenges in different adventure disciplines, demonstrating professional guiding skills, leadership and teamwork.
The marathon will include competitions in horseback riding, cycling, rafting, jeep tour, ski tour, incident response, rescue operations, etc. Along with Tbilisi, eastern Georgia’s Sighnaghi, the south-eastern protected area of Chachuna Managed Reserve and Vashlovani Nature Reserve, as well as the north-eastern mountainous Pshavi province and the country’s ski resort Gudauri will host the marathon.
The project aims to promote adventure industry, active leisure and guided travel, as well as to attract and inspire young people, living in the regions, to become guides, which will “strengthen the generation, the community and the region”.
