1.17 mln citizens spent $94 mln on domestic tourism in Q1 - statistics office

About 1.17 million Georgian citizens aged 15 and above made 1.45 million monthly visits within the country in the first quarter of 2023, spending ₾244.7 million ($93.77), the latest domestic tourism data published by the National Statistics Office on Wednesday showed. 

The figures said the monthly average number of visitors decreased by 5.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while the monthly average expenditures increased by 16.5 percent year-on-year. 

The average expenditure per visit increased by 10.4 percent and equalled ₾167.9 ($64.34).

In Q1, the monthly average number of domestic tourist visits by Georgian residents amounted to 621,000, which was 0.9 percent lower compared to the previous year.

The majority of the visitors (32.9 percent) were residents of capital Tbilisi, followed by the western Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti regions (17.2 percent) and the central-eastern Kvemo Kartli region (10.2 percent). The remaining regions were represented by a lower share in the structure, the Office said.

The majority of the visits came on Tbilisi (average 372,000 visits per month) and Imereti region (293,200 visits per month). 

People aged 31-50 were among the most avid domestic travellers (36.5 percent), while 53.4 percent of the visits were made by women, the body also said.
