Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Monday vowed his country’s support for Georgia’s accession to the European Union.
“I met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia two days ago in Rome. Stability is very important for Georgia. We are supporters of Georgia joining the European Union”, Tajani said.
Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili was on Monday scheduled to participate in a session of the EU’s Council of Foreign Affairs.
Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Georgia's Representative to the European Union, called the event a “special case and particularly important”.
He said the FM's participation was “especially important” in the context of the country’s anticipation of the EU decision on whether to grant it its membership candidate status.
