Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday discussed “close and friendly ties” with Italy and the latter’s support for Georgia’s European integration in a meeting with the outgoing Italian Ambassador Enrico Valvo.

The meeting at the PM’s office also highlighted the establishment of a “high-level political dialogue format” between the states and discussed prospects of further intensifying the partnership, the Government press office said.

The European Council’s “historic decision” this month to grant Georgia the European Union membership candidate status was also noted.

The head of the Georgian Government extended gratitude to the diplomat for his “personal contribution” to fostering cooperation between the two countries, before the Ambassador reiterated his Government's support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
