Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, Georgia's Representative to the European Union, on Monday said the participation of Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili in the latest session of the bloc’s Council of Foreign Affairs was a “special case and particularly important”.
In his remarks, Makharoblishvili noted the event, hosted on Monday, was “especially important” in the context of the country’s anticipation of the EU decision on whether to grant it its membership candidate status.
This is very timely, necessary and important, taking into account the factors and processes that Georgia faces today. This is a really important and unique opportunity, [and] it is happening at a very important time when Georgia is waiting for the interim report from the European Union on the progress made in relation to receiving the candidate status”, Makharoblishvili said.
The diplomat also added the Georgian Government was waiting for the report of the European Commission and the decision of the European Council on the status.
“Therefore, this is a unique opportunity for us to talk together with the 27 member states on all important issues. Among them, the [Georgian] Minister will focus on what steps Georgia is taking in terms of the implementation of 12 priorities [for receiving the status], and will also talk about the report that we submitted to the European Union a few days ago”, he noted.
