Dynamics of trade between Georgia and the United States and economic ties between the two countries were discussed on Tuesday between the Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and Matthew S. Axelrod, the Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement of the US Department of Commerce.

The Ministry said the meeting also covered American assistance efforts to strengthen customs control capacities of Georgia to facilitate the development of trade control within the Black Sea region, as well as Georgia's compliance with international sanctions placed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

In the comments for the meeting, Khutsishvili said his Government had pursued a “centralised management” of enforcement of the sanctions since their imposition.

The meeting also emphasised the importance of expanding Georgia’s logistical, trade and transportation opportunities to advance its integration into Europe.

The meeting was attended by deputy ministers Giorgi Kakauridze, Ekaterine Guntsadze and Mirza Gelashvili, as well as David Zalkaliani, Georgia's Ambassador to the United States.
