Moldovan PM: Moldova behind Georgia, Ukraine in harmonisation of law to European standards

In her comments to the Moldovan local media, Gavrilița said both Georgia and Ukraine had begun the harmonisation process “earlier”, as the countries’ governments had set European integration as their priority, stressing Moldova had to “catch up” with them and “go a long way” to adjust the country’s legislation to the EU requirements. Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița on Saturday said Moldova “lagged behind” Georgia and Ukraine in harmonising legislation with European standards.

The European Council in June recognised the European perspective and granted the status of candidate countries to Ukraine and Moldova, while also “likewise recognising” the European perspective of Georgia and “confirming” the Council’s readiness to grant the country candidate status once the recommendations would be fulfilled.
