Georgian PM to feature at European Political Community Summit in Chișinău

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili will feature in the second European Political Community Summit in the Moldovan capital of Chișinău on Thursday, with the event bringing together 47 heads of state and government across the continent.
The Summit will address “issues of common interests” and security challenges on the backdrop of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, the European Council said.
Garibashvili will be involved in roundtable thematic discussions at the Summit, and will also hold “high-level” bilateral meetings on the sidelines of its sessions, the Georgian Government Administration noted.
The first EPC Summit was held in October 2022, with leaders mainly discussing peace, security and the energy crisis amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict that erupted in February of last year.
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić on Tuesday said Georgia had several conditions to fulfil, upon which she hoped the country would be granted the European Union membership candidate status.
Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița on Saturday said Moldova “lagged behind” Georgia and Ukraine in harmonising legislation with European standards.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday said the European Council’s June decision on granting Georgia a European perspective instead of the European Union membership candidate status had been “political” and “not based on merit”, with the Government head adding his team nevertheless believed the country would receive the latter “very soon”.
