The Government of Georgia on Thursday approved the second National Strategy for the Protection of Human Rights for the years 2022-2030, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced.

The PM said the work on the Strategy involved a “multi-stakeholder engagement” due to its “high political and public significance”, adding the document had been approved by the Government and Parliament.

Aspiration of the state towards institutional democracy, ensuring equality in the deployment of civil, political, social, cultural and economic rights, solidifying policy of equality and care for citizens affected by the occupation are foundations of state policy, which serves as a basis for this document”, Garibashvili’s statement noted.

He also said the Government and Parliament “confirm the commitment assumed by the country towards human rights and basic freedoms, which envisages a consistent and uninterrupted implementation of the systemic and long-term policy for the protection of human rights” with the approval of the Strategy.
