Paweł Herczyński, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, on Sunday said Georgians could “count on the EU to stand by your side to ensure your fundamental rights are respected”.
In his statement on Human Rights Day, Herczyński called the European Commission’s recommendation to the European Council to grant Georgia the candidate status “historic” and noted it came with the responsibility to improve the protection of human rights in the country.
“Protection of Human Rights is part of EU???????? Enlargement process. You can count on EU to stand by your side to ensure that your fundamental rights are respected.”

Protecting human rights is at the heart of the EU. Striving to make this vision a reality is part of the bloc enlargement process and one of the nine steps on Georgia’s path to EU membership”, the Ambassador emphasised.
Marking the 75th Anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Herczyński said “the world has changed a lot” since the “landmark” document was adopted, highlighting the need to be “united” in defending these rights as facing “adverse trends across the globe”.
