Today, we celebrate Human Rights Day, [and] the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, [and] it is important to think about what we are doing so that all people in our country feel equal”, Papuashvili said.

In his speech, the Parliament Speaker also highlighted the “effective steps” taken by the Georgian Parliament aiming to strengthen women’s rights and gender equality.

The Public Defender Ioseliani said 75 years “have passed since the adoption of the human rights declaration”, but many countries, including Georgia, were still trying to “cope with the existing challenges”.

As part of the event, the Permanent Parliamentary Council for Gender Equality’s presentation of the report Decade of Women’s Empowerment was also held, which reflects Georgia’s progress in gender equality at the local and international levels.

Human Rights Day is marked annually since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
