The European Union’s enlargement agenda was discussed on Monday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Simon Mordue, the Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of the European Council.
Darchiashvili informed Mordue about the “successful” agenda of the reforms implemented by the Georgian Government, the foreign office said.
The meeting also focused on the Georgian Government’s action plan for the implementation of the recommendations set out by the European Commission for granting the bloc’s membership candidate status.

The meeting noted the country “deserved” to be granted the candidate status, which had also been confirmed by the relevant recommendation of the European Commission, and the officials expressed their hope that the European Council would make a decision that would move Georgia's EU accession process to the next stage.
The officials also reviewed the current situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia, with Darchiashvili thanking the EU for its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, its involvement in the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict in the country, and contribution to the process of ensuring security on the ground.

He also reviewed the ongoing consultations between the Georgian Government and the bloc with Gert Jan Koopman, the Director General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for EU Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.
The officials expressed their hope that the European Council would make a decision on granting Georgia the bloc’s membership candidate status this week.
