The Moldovan Government remains “in touch” with “our friends and colleagues” in Georgia and Ukraine as the three states proceed on their recent bids to join the European Union, Nicu Popescu, Moldova's Foreign Minister, said before a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday.
In his comments, Popescu said it was understood the future of the three Associated Trio countries was “in the EU” in the wake of their applications to join the Union.
Moldova, along with Ukraine and Georgia, recently applied for EU membership. We in Moldova believe that we are a European country with a European political system and a European history,” Popescu said.
The top Moldovan diplomat noted his country was coordinating actions concerning the EU membership application with partners in Georgia and Ukraine, also making a reference to Russia’s invasion of the latter last month.
Of course, what is happening in Ukraine is very tragic, but we all understand that the future of our countries is in the European Union. This is the best way to ensure the peace, stability, security and well-being of our citizens. This is what we believe in Moldova,” Popescu said.
