The defence partnership between the Untied Kingdom and Georgia was discussed on Tuesday during a meeting between Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and James Heappey, the UK Parliamentary Secretary of State for the Armed Forces.

A “new level” of relations between the two states, achieved through the format of the strategic dialogue and cooperation in the field of defence, was discussed by the officials in the meeting also attended by British Ambassador Mark Clayton and Georgia’s Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze.

The Georgian PM also noted Georgia was “actively pursuing” defence reforms to further develop the country’s capabilities, the Government Administration said.

In the discussion, the two leaders also reviewed the importance of the Black Sea regional stability in ensuring common Euro-Atlantic security, while the meeting also focused on the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine and the security challenges in the Eastern European region.
