Opposition-minded TV Pirveli channel spread “false and unverified” information about the issuance of licenses for gold mining in Georgia’s northwest Mestia Municipality, the Georgian Economy Ministry said on Sunday.
The licenses for gold mining near Mestia’s Ghvebaldi and Gvalderi villages had not been issued following the electronic auction hosted on February 15, 2022, the Ministry noted.
The statement highlighted that by spreading disinformation, TV Pirveli attempted to “deliberately” mislead the public.
Georgian Patrol Inspector Gela Kvashilava won a civil dispute against the opposition-minded TV Pirveli over spreading false information in Tbilisi Court of Appeals on Thursday.
The Court of Appeals upheld the November 19 decision made by Tbilisi City Court, which obliged TV Pirveli to pay compensation for moral damage to Kvashilava after the television channel accused him of drug trafficking.
Residents of the village of Shkmeri in Oni municipality of Georgia have held a rally earlier today in protest of the issuance of licenses for manganese mining.
