Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday highlighted the role of the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in "dealing with external threats in accordance with the interests of the country" throughout the past year, in comments summing up the foreign policy efforts of the Government in 2022.

In his remarks at Ambassadors Conference 2022, an annual event bringing together the heads of Georgian diplomatic missions abroad and units of the foreign office, Darchiashvili noted the past year had "proved" the state institutions' ability to “effectively deal with the challenges".

I would especially highlight the role of the Prime Minister, under whose leadership, in these difficult conditions, the Government was able to successfully deal with external threats in accordance with the interests of the country”, the top Georgian diplomat said.

“In other words, in 2022, the country has proven that its state institutions have the ability to effectively deal with challenges - that is a sign of a sustainable and successful state”, Darchiashvili continued.

He also stressed the world faced a “fundamentally new reality" in 2022, and pointed out that "even in such conditions" Georgian diplomatic services had managed to show “incredibly high professionalism”.

Throughout recent history, we have never lacked foreign political threats. However, without exaggeration, it should be said that the past year was the most difficult and tense in this respect. In 2022, the world faced a fundamentally new reality”, he said.

“It is worth noting that the coordinated actions between different branches of the Government and state agencies, as well as the consistent foreign policy steps of the ruling team, the Parliamentary and executive authorities, played a major role in this success”, Darchiashvili concluded.
