Efforts made by the Georgian Government on the path of European integration were discussed on Monday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Josep Borrell, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The officials “positively” assessed the Eastern Partnership as a “good opportunity” to discuss challenges and opportunities of cooperation within the format, the Georgian foreign office said.
Darchiashvili informed Borrell of the progress achieved in the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission for granting the country the membership candidate status.
The meeting also highlighted the EU structures' "political decision" in June to grant Georgia a European perspective, emphasising the “special role” of Borrell in the “positive dynamics” of the relationship between the country and the bloc.

The officials also reviewed the “priority” directions of Georgia's cooperation with the EU, including the importance of economic and sectoral integration with the Union, particularly in transport, energy and digital sectors.
The meeting also focused on security challenges, including the “positive role” of the EU Monitoring Mission in maintaining “peace and stability” in the conflict-affected regions of Georgia.
Darchiashvili also thanked the EU for its allocation of another financial package for supporting development of Georgia's defence and security.
