Georgian, Turkish defence ministers review strategic cooperation

“Successful strategic cooperation” between Georgia and Türkiye in the defence sector was discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze and his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar.

Burchuladze, who is attending the trilateral ministerial involving officials from Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Georgia, noted the defence cooperation with Turkish authorities and thanked the country for its support, the Defence Ministry said.

He also emphasised the material, technical and financial assistance of the Turkish Government and the involvement and support of Turkish experts in the process of development of the Georgian Defence Forces.

 

In their discussion the officials reviewed questions of cooperation with NATO, deepening of ties in military education and international drills, while also discussing the current security environment in the Black Sea region, growing threats and the Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The trilateral defence cooperation between Georgia, Türkiye and Azerbaijan was launched in 2012, with this year’s ministerial hosted by Türkiye.
