Georgian Defence Minister, Romanian Chief of Defence discuss bilateral relations, future cooperation

Georgian-Romanian defence cooperation and future relations were discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze and General Daniel Petrescu, the Romanian Chief of Defence, the Georgian Defence Ministry said.

The parties highlighted the importance of stability and development of the Black Sea region, as well as the importance of the NATO-Georgia Essential Package and Romania’s contribution “to the successful implementation” of its initiatives.

After the official welcoming ceremony, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, the Chief of the Georgian Defence Forces, also hosted his Romanian counterpart, with the parties discussing bilateral relations and future military cooperation.

As part of his visit to Georgia, Petrescu also met with the NATO Core Team and representatives of the NATO-Georgia Joint Training and Evaluation Centre.

In a symbolic part of his visit, Petrescu laid a wreath to the memorial on Heroes' Square in Tbilisi paying homage to those fallen in conflicts for Georgia's territorial integrity.
