Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, the Chief of the Georgian Defence Forces, on Saturday discussed “strategic” partnership with the Romanian Defence Minister Angel Tîlvăr and General Daniel Petrescu, the Chief of the Defence Staff of Romania, in his visit to the country.
The officials highlighted the partnership agreement signed between the two countries in October 2022, as well as their renewed agreement on defence cooperation, the Georgian Defence Ministry said.
Current and future bilateral cooperation, including in military education and participation in joint drills, were also reviewed at the meeting.
The sides also discussed regional security and existing challenges in the Black Sea region, as well as the existing mechanisms of cooperation with NATO and the European Union, and reforms implemented to strengthen defence capabilities.
The conversation touched on the important role of the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package and Romania's contribution to the successful implementation of its initiatives.
Matiashvili thanked the Romanian side for its “steadfast” support of Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Within the framework of his visit, the Chief of the Georgian Defence Forces also attended the multinational training exercise Dacian Strike 23.
