Georgia will continue to provide both political support and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine "within its capabilities", Ilia Darchiashvili, the Head of the Administration of the Government of Georgia, said on Tuesday.
Darchiashvili was responding to the "baffling" decision by the President of Ukraine to recall his ambassador from Georgia earlier during the day. The head of the government administration said the country would continue providing help to Ukraine despite the move.
The Georgian official added "supporting the Ukrainian people and maintaining peace and stability in the country" would continue to be the Georgian government's aim.
Darchiashvili called the attempt of sending volunteers on a charter flight to Ukraine on Monday - organised by the United National Movement opposition party - "provocative", adding the move would have been perceived as an indirect involvement of the country in the hostilities had the flight gone ahead.
Darchiashvili also highlighted the Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine remained in Kyiv, and said the Embassy was one of the few remaining diplomatic offices that continued to work in the under-fire capital.
