Movement of heavy trucks has been prohibited on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road connecting Georgia to Russia due to heavy snowfall, the Roads Department of Georgia announced on Monday.

While access to the section has been restricted to semi-trailers and trailers, traffic of cars is still permitted on the road, the agency also said.

Overnight rain and low temperatures in capital Tbilisi between Sunday and Monday have led to Tbilservice Group company being involved in cleaning roads in the city.

About 50 employees of the company and six units of special equipment are involved in the efforts, with 25 tonnes of salt used on roads in the holiday locations of Tabakhmela, Kojori, Shindisi, Kiketi, Samadlo, Tskneti, Tsavkisi and Betania on the outskirts of the capital.
