The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has announced today that seven road sections are facing traffic restrictions due to heavy snowfall.

The restrictions are as follows:

  • Movement of semi-trailers and trailers is prohibited on the Gudauri-Kobi section of eastern Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi route
  • Due to heavy snow, a 50 kilometer section of the Khashuri-Akhaltsikhe-Vale road section, movement is restricted for semi-trailers and trailers
  • Traffic on Mleta-Gudauri and Gudauri-Kobi road sections is allowed non-stop only inside avalanche protecting tunnels
  • Only off-road traffic is allowed on the 20-kilometre section of Batumi-Akhaltsikhe highway
  • Trailers, semi-trailers with a capacity of more that 30 seats are prohibited on the first 22 kilometre of the Alpana-Tsageri road, while other types of vehicles are allowed with anti-skid chains.  The vehicles with two or more tandem-drive axles are also allowed
  • Due to heavy snow, the movement of trucks is prohibited on the Nakerala Pass section of the Kutaisi-Tkibuli-Ambrolauri highway and on the Sachkhere-Oni highway
  • Due to heavy snow, low temperature and poor visibility, trailers and semi-trailers are prohibited on nearly 100 km of the Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestaponi highway (km18-km106).

The Roads Department said major efforts to clean the roads are currently underway.
