Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Saturday said it had been determined at the constitutional level in Georgia that the state would create “special conditions” for the realisation of the rights and interests of persons with disabilities, as “particularly important” to protect their rights, the Government Administration said.

In his statement, Garibashvili noted that in 2022 the Georgian Government had approved the second national strategy for the protection of human rights, with special emphasis on ensuring “equal opportunities and full involvement” in public life for persons with disabilities, adding that an interagency committee for the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was created based on the international and local legal obligations.

To achieve living in a dignified and equal environment, the state will continue to carry out  its unified and coordinated activities”, the PM noted.

The head of the Government also said that the budget of the Health Ministry would be increased by around ₾77 million (about  $29 mln) to ensure an increment in the funding of healthcare and other targeted programmes.
