Interior Ministry summarises its activities for protection of rights of persons with disabilities at conference

Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Saturday summarised the activities carried out in the ministry for the protection of the rights of disabled persons at the conference dedicated to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

At the conference, held in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme and with the support of the Swedish Embassy in Georgia, the members of the Ministry’s advisory group working on the rights of persons with disabilities briefed the participants of the event on their activities and involvement in the implementation process of the Ministry’s action plan. It comprises the protection of persons with disabilities from exploitation, ill-treatment and discrimination, ensuring access to criminal justice, and combating crimes against disabled people.

Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, the Deputy Interior Minister and Gigi Bregadze, the Head of Democratic Governance Department of UNDP addressed the conference, with other participants - Niko Tatulashvili, the Georgian PM’s Advisor on Human Rights Protection, Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Committee on Human Rights, and Nina Khatiskatsi, the Executive Director at Network of Centers for Civic Engagement - also delivering speeches at the event.
