Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili and Fikrat Mammadov, the justice minister of Azerbaijan, on Thursday discussed relations between the two countries and prospects of future partnership.

The conversation touched on Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Georgia in October, with parties noting it as “another proof of the outstanding relationship” between the states that would “bring an additional impetus” to the cooperation, the Georgian government administration said.

Discussing the security situation in the South Caucasus region, the sides emphasised the importance of dialogue in the region, adding the Georgian PM’s Peaceful Neighbourhood Initiative could become a “solid foundation for increasing trust” between regional neighbours.

The officials also expressed readiness to further deepen trade ties in the meeting that also involved Azerbaijani  ambassador Faig Guliyev and Georgian justice minister Rati Bregadze.

Mammadov is visiting Georgia within the framework of the Georgian-Azerbaijani Legal Forum, held for the first time under the patronage of justice ministries of the two countries.
