Georgian chess legend Nona Gaprindashvili wins her 8th World Senior Chess Championship

Georgian chess legend Nona Gaprindashvili has won the World Senior Chess Championship for the eighth time in Italy in the 65+ section of the championship, the Georgian chess federation announced.

Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili congratulated the world’s greatest female chess player Gaprindashvili on continuing her “amazing” sports biography with another victory and thanked her for “bringing joy” to every Georgian.

Zurab Sturua, another Georgian chess player has also won the title of the world champion in section 50+ for the second time in his career, while Sopio Tereladze, the European champion among seniors, has been awarded a silver medal in the 50+ section of the championship.
