The Georgian parliament on Friday hosted more than 30 Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing conflict in their country, with MPs giving the young visitors souvenirs after guiding them through the institution and its museum.
Praising the “heroism and devotion” of the Ukrainian people, parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili said their struggle would not be in vain and “the aggression and the aggressor will be given an appropriate response”.

I am glad that I can welcome you to the parliament and see your eyes bright with the joy that children of your age should have. Our nation has also gone through a number of hardships in recent decades and we also witnessed hostilities in our childhood”, Papuashvili told the children.
Beka Odisharia, the chairman of the diaspora and Caucasus affairs committee of the parliament and the author of the initiative, thanked Ukraine’s citizens for “doing a great work for the free world” in their resistance to the invasion.
He said the Georgian parliamentary delegation was the second to visit Bucha, Irpin, Kyiv and other regions of the war-torn country in the early days of the conflict.
The history of the Georgian people is a struggle for its independence as well. This is what unites us with the Ukrainian people”, the MP said.
Gia Volski, the vice speaker of parliament, told the visiting children Georgian authorities were “doing their utmost” to support Ukraine and its people in the difficult times.
The visiting group of Ukrainian children will also have an opportunity to travel to various destinations across Georgia over the next 10 days and learn about the country’s history, culture and monuments. They will also be hosted at the Mtatsminda park in capital Tbilisi.
