Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Thursday congratulated Georgian diplomats on their professional day and noted the “rich professional experience” of the Georgian diplomatic service.

The date reminds us once again of the rich professional experience of the Georgian diplomatic service and the special mission that diplomacy has always had and still has in our country”, Darchiashvili said in his congratulatory message.

Georgia celebrates Diplomat’s Day on November 3, marking the birthday of the writer, public and historical political figure Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani.

It is symbolic that we celebrate the professional day on the birthday of the great Georgian public figure and diplomat Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, thereby emphasising the main cornerstone of our country's foreign policy and the historical choice of the Georgian nation - full-fledged membership in the European family”, the top Georgian diplomat continued.

Darchiashvili stressed Georgian envoys had a “great mission” and expressed his confidence the team of the Georgian foreign office would “successfully cope with the tasks set” before them.

Together with the central office of the ministry, which is a unified, integral team, I especially want to salute the diplomatic missions of Georgia abroad and each diplomat protecting the interests of the country far from the homeland and their family members. We thank you all for your service and wish you the best of luck”, he concluded.
