Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili, President Salome Zurabishvili and FM David Zalkaliani spoke at the event dedicated to Diplomat’s Day at the Palace of State Ceremonies in central Tbilisi earlier today.
Georgia celebrates Diplomat’s Day on November 3, the day when famous Georgian writer, public and political figure Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani was born.
The name of Sulkhan-Saba is connected to the development of modern diplomacy in Georgia, as well as the establishment of the values, orientations and goals in our foreign policy which still guide our efforts in the international diplomatic arena,” Garibashvili said.
On the occasion of Diplomat's Day, we have the honor to extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the representatives of the???????? diplomatic service - outstanding professionals, who spare no efforts to strengthen our country's position on the int'l arena! He thanked Georgian diplomats for their ‘invaluable work’ and noted that they play crucial role in the process of Georgia’s EU integration.
Garibashvili also noted that Georgia's contribution to global peace is recognised worldwide.
Together with our brave military servicemen, the great efforts of Georgian diplomacy have increased our role in global politics,” said Garibashvili.
President Zurabishvili also emphasised the importance of Georgian ambassadors, noting that ‘strong diplomacy serves Georgia.’
She also noted that despite the political polarisation in the country ‘society is united around the idea of EU integration.’
FM Zalkaliani, in his turn, stated that diplomatic service in Georgia needs special resources due to the country’s small size.
Celebrated Diplomat's Day W the reps of the???????? gov't, as well as my friends & colleagues from @MFAgovge. Rewarded 3 diplomats for their exceptional work. It is an honor to lead such a wonderful team of professionals who do their best for defending interests of their homeland - ????????! pic.twitter.com/S7ZDfvmeqM

He expressed the hope for further support of the diplomatic service in the country.
I am confident that we [Foreign Ministry] will have very strong and serious support from the prime minister and the government team as a whole,” Zalkaliani said.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava, who also attended the event, praised the Georgian diplomats’ work, thanked them for their service and wished success in pursuing the interests of the country.
The Palace of State Ceremonies where the event took place used to be the Palace of President built in 2004-2009 with the initiation of third Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili.
Georgia has diplomatic relations with 189 countries and currently, 42 resident and 24 international missions are operating in Georgia.
