Georgian tour operators, journalists and bloggers have visited the mountainous region of Racha-Lechkhumi in the west of the country in a tourism promotion campaign hosted by the national tourism administration.

Visiting villages of Chrebalo and Gvirishi, the media professionals were invited to taste local wines and cuisine and visit the Ghvirishi waterfall located 625 metres above sea level, the national body said.

Promoting local cuisine, supporting local entrepreneurs and increasing the flow of domestic and international visitors in the locality were among the goals of the initiative.

Supported by the German society for international cooperation, the campaign also aimed to promote regional tourist infrastructure and family hotels set up for the recently hosted Gemo Fest.

The visiting bloggers and journalists will use their impressions of the region to produce promotional articles, blog posts and TV reports on its attractions, the administration said.
