Gemo Fest: Georgia’s north-west to host local food, drink festival

Georgia's north-western city of Ambrolauri is getting ready to host the inaugural edition of the local food and drink festival Gemo Fest between Friday and Saturday, the Georgian National Tourism Administration announced on Monday.

Organisers of the event have invited visitors to the first edition to "discover new tastes of traditional Racha, Lechkhumi and Svaneti dishes" and wine, in reference to the regions it will celebrate.

In addition to local food, guests have also been promised an exhibition and sale, music and other entertainment in Ambrolauri Central Park.

The goal of the festival project, implemented with the support of the German International Development Agency, is to promote local cuisine and develop agricultural tourism in the region. Organisers plan to make the event a regular occurrence.

For the opening edition of the event, additional domestic flights have been announced by the United Airports of Georgia. The Natakhtari-Ambrolauri route will have an additional connection at 4:30pm on Thursday, while the return flight is scheduled at 2:10pm on Sunday.
