Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Monday said prime minister Irakli Garibashvili and Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev would have the opportunity to discuss “all important issues” in bilateral relations during their meeting as part of the latter’s visit to Georgia.

Aliyev launched his second visit to Georgia earlier today, with the visiting official and Garibashvili scheduled to make joint statements for the media later during the day.

Darchiashvili noted the meeting would also focus on how the two states should “ensure peace and stability” in the South Caucasus region.

Georgia and Azerbaijan have a close strategic partnership, good neighbourly relations. Within the framework of the working visit, the prime minister and the president will have the opportunity to discuss all the important issues that we have in our bilateral relations”, the top Georgian diplomat said.

Darchiashvili stressed there was a “very wide range” of topics in relations between the two states, with Aliyev’s visit being an “opportunity” to discuss them.

Another important topic to be discussed on the backdrop of regional challenges is how the two states should ensure peace and stability in our region and all the issues that exist in multilateral formats”, the FM concluded in his comments.
