PM: Ukraine conflict should be resolved through negotiations

Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday said that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine should be resolved through negotiations.

In his remarks at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev, Garibashvili noted a “great importance” had been attached to “peace and stability” on the backdrop of “rapidly changing and complex challenges”.

We reviewed the complex situation in the world and the ongoing processes. Naturally, we touched on the situation in the region, and we all agree that what is happening in Ukraine should be resolved through negotiations”, he told the press.

“I would also like to say that in the face of rapidly changing and complex challenges in the region and the world, a great importance is attached to peace and stability, which are key factors for the well-being of our region and our peoples in general”, Garibashvili said.

The “special relations and strategic partnership” between Georgia and Azerbaijan were discussed on Monday in the meeting between the two officials.

They highlighted the “high level” of strategic partnership, “intensive cooperation” in trade and economy and “active political dialogue” between the two countries

Garibashvili noted “peace and stability” in the South Caucasus region ensured economic development, with the officials also stressing the two countries were “closely cooperating” in foreign policy and working with “united forces to overcome existing challenges”.
