Georgia’s Bakuriani winter resort will have a budget of ₾100 million ($37mln) for the construction of venues that will host the 2025 European Winter Youth Olympic Festival.

Prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday discussed plans for the related infrastructure with Leri Khabelov, the head of the national olympic committee, with the government administration announcing the officials agreed preparatory works for hosting the tournament would begin next year.

They also noted the facilities would be used to enable Georgian athletes to train in the country in their preparations for future competitions, instead of having to travel abroad for preparations in some cases. The head of the government pledged “ full support” to the committee head in the project.

Bakuriani was granted the right to host the Olympic event by the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees General Assembly in November 2020.
