Ruling party to feature in Party of European Socialists anniversary congress

The ruling Georgian Dream party will participate in the international congress of the Party of European Socialists, set to run in Berlin between Friday and Saturday and feature high-ranking European politicians marking the anniversary of the PES.
The Georgian Dream press office said its chair Irakli Kobakhidze would lead the delegation representing the party at the congress.
Dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the PES, the event will feature German chancellor Olaf Scholz, Finnish prime minister Sanna Marin, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez, EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy Josep Borrell and other leaders.
With the motto “With Courage. For Europe”, PES leaders will discuss policies to address “deep shifts” in the international security and multilateral balance, soaring energy prices and inflation, Covid crisis, climate change and social challenges.
Frank Schwabe, a member of the German Bundestag, on Monday said Georgia was a “part of Europe” and added his country supported European integration aspirations of the former.
Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Tuesday said his government would fulfil all conditions outlined by the European Union for granting the country the membership candidate status.
Domagoj Hajduković, the chair of the European affairs committee of the Croatian parliament who is on a visit to Georgia, on Tuesday said he was “very disappointed” that Georgia had not been granted the European Union membership candidate status in June, while expressing his confidence that once necessary reforms are implemented, the country will receive the status.
Peter Fischer, the ambassador of Germany to Georgia, on Monday said his government would work “very closely” with Georgia on the country’s European integration.
Germany's role and support for Georgia's EU integration process, and a deepening of mutual cooperation were discussed on Friday in a meeting between Irakli Kobakhidze, the chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, and Lars Klingbeil, the co-leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany.
The resolution adopted by the Party of European Socialists congress in Berlin is “especially important” for Georgia, which emphasises the significance of the European Union candidate status for Georgia and is a “direct appeal” to the European structures to grant the country candidate status, Irakli Kobakhidze, the chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party said on Friday.
