The Georgian foreign ministry on Sunday held a conference of Honorary Consuls of Georgia - Cooperation for Strong Partnership, with consuls from more than 50 countries participating in the event, the ministry said.

Within the framework of the event, thematic panels were held, where the participants discussed the issues of foreign policy, economic and cultural diplomacy of Georgia, as well as the opportunities for the development of Georgian agriculture.

Georgian vice prime minister and economy minister Levan Davitashvili and the country’s foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili opened the conference with their addresses.

Strengthening trade and business relations, contacts between chambers of commerce and industry, as well as the importance of supporting investment projects were highlighted at the conference.

The ministry said the purpose of the Honorary Consulate Institute has been to raise awareness of the sending country in the receiving state and to promote it, as well as to establish close cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, tourism, science and culture, and provide legal assistance to citizens of the presenting country in need.
Georgia has 90 honorary consuls in 64 countries.
