Foreign ministry holds conference of Georgian Honorary Consuls - Cooperation for Strong Partnership

The Georgian foreign ministry on Sunday held a conference of Honorary Consuls of Georgia - Cooperation for Strong Partnership, with consuls from more than 50 countries participating in the event, the ministry said.

Within the framework of the event, thematic panels were held, where the participants discussed the issues of foreign policy, economic and cultural diplomacy of Georgia, as well as the opportunities for the development of Georgian agriculture.

Strengthening trade and business relations, contacts between chambers of commerce and industry, as well as the importance of supporting investment projects were highlighted at the conference.

The ministry said the purpose of the Honorary Consulate Institute has been to raise awareness of the sending country in the receiving state and to promote it, as well as to establish close cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, tourism, science and culture, and provide legal assistance to citizens of the presenting country in need.
Georgia has 90 honorary consuls in 64 countries.
Pawel Herczynski, the European Union’s newly appointed Ambassador, on Friday, presented his credentials to Georgian Foreign Minister, Ilia Darchiashvili, after which the officials discussed the “wide range” of existing cooperation between Georgia and the EU, including the European Council’s decision to grant the country the European perspective.
The agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation involving Georgia and Bulgaria, and prospects of further deepening the “traditionally friendly” relations between the states were discussed on Saturday in an introductory meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Vesselin Valkanov, the Bulgarian Ambassador to the country.
The “strategic partnership” between Georgia and the United States, and the topic of intensifying ties between the countries in defence, security, trade, economy and investment were discussed by Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and US Ambassador Kelly Degnan on Saturday.
Since the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine last month, a decree of the Prime Minister of Georgia instructed diplomatic missions of Georgia in the country to organise evacuation of Georgian nationals to their home country and provide them with basic assistance on the backdrop of the war.
The Honorary Consulate Institute is particularly important for Georgia, including in presenting the country “positively” in the international arena, disseminating objective information, sharing investment and tourism potential, as well as increasing awareness, Levan Davitashvili, the economy minister and vice prime minister said on Sunday at the thematic panel on economic diplomacy within the framework of the conference of Honorary Consuls of Georgia - Cooperation for Strong Partnership.
Cooperation between Georgia and Bulgaria and prospects for further strengthening of existing ties were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Otar Berdzenishvili, the country’s newly appointed Ambassador to Bulgaria.
