Hundreds of infrastructure projects worth ₾120 million (about $42.48 mln) are underway in eastern Georgia’s region of Kakheti, deputy infrastructure minister Ilia Begiashvili said on Tuesday.
Begiashvili said the projects were financed from the regional development fund, the rural support programme and other funds and included renovation of schools, creation of new recreational zones, rehabilitation of roads and more.
It should be emphasised that of these projects, 35 ongoing ones are supported by an EU-financed programme [...] Some of them have already been completed. I am sure that each project will be completed on time and will benefit the population and young people of the region", Begiashvili said after inspecting the works in the region.

Begiashvili also said the EU's pilot integrated regional development programme was currently underway in seven municipalities of Kakheti, with almost ₾55 million ($19 mln) to be invested in 35 projects in total.
The EU-financed projects in Kakheti include setting up of a recreational park and a kindergarten in the city of Telavi, launching a new recreational park in Tsnori and renovating the Bakurtsikhe bypass road.
Other initiatives involve renovation of a road heading to Mariamjvari strict nature reserve and development of infrastructure on site, overhaul of the Gurjaani Cultural Centre, rehabilitation of the Sighnaghi-Kvemo Machkhaani road and establishment of a recreational area in Kvareli.
