Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili discussed the agendas of cooperation and bilateral relations in meetings with his Arab, Kuwaiti, Jordanian and Icelander counterparts, on the sidelines of the United Nations general assembly, on Saturday, the foreign ministry said.
The “intensified cooperation” between Georgia and Saudi Arabia in political, trade-economic, tourism and other fields was welcomed by Darchiashvili and Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, with the Georgian foreign minister congratulating his counterpart on the country’s national day, and wishing “peace and prosperity” to Saudi Arabia and its people.

Darchiashvili and Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah emphasised the importance of “further deepening” relations in trade-economic and tourism, and praised the increased number of visitors from Kuwait to Georgia, stressing the need to hold an intergovernmental cooperation committee meeting.
The parties also welcomed the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries.

Darchiashvili and his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, expressed their “readiness” to work “actively” to maintain and develop the ties between the countries and highlighted people-to-people relations.
The sides welcomed the handover of a plot of land near the Jordan River to Georgia for an opening of a Georgian culture centre by Jordanian authorities, and highlighted Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili’s “historic” visit to the country and meeting with King Abdullah II.

The importance of mutual support in international formats was noted by Darchiashvili and Iceland’s foreign minister Þórdís Kolbrún R. Gylfadóttir, with officials “agreeing” to “intensify” high-level communication. The foreign ministers also welcomed the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Iceland.
