Georgian police officers arrested a foreign citizen at the Batumi international airport, with the individual charged with illegal purchase, storage and smuggling of over 11 kilograms of marijuana, the interior ministry said on Tuesday.
The state body said officers of its central criminal police department and finance ministry’s revenue service customs department had made the arrest and seized the batch from the person.
The package was extracted from a pre-arranged concealment section in the travel bag of the offender, who was attempting to smuggle the drugs into Georgia from South Africa, the statement said.
The crimes are punishable up to 20 years in prison, or life imprisonment.
