Georgian police arrest Ukrainian citizen for cocaine smuggling attempt

The Central Criminal Police Department of the Georgian Interior Ministry and the Customs Development of the Revenue Service of the Finance Ministry arrested an Ukrainian citizen at Tbilisi International Airport for an attempt of smuggling cocaine in “especially large quantities”, the Interior Ministry announced on Friday.

The statement said the law enforcement officers had found up to three kilograms of cocaine from a pre-arranged concealed compartment in the travel bag of the offender.

Police found the Ukrainian citizen had brought drugs from Brazil by plane before making the smuggling attempt.

The crime is punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
