Georgian PM: Russia continues to occupy Georgia, country has to avoid “many provocations”, manage borderisation

Garibashvili said Russia’s “unjustified” aggression and large-scale war in Ukraine had “radically” changed the situation in the world, including in the Black Sea Region, and noted Georgia had been the first to experience “such war” in 2008, after which Russia has occupied Georgia’s “significant part”, 20 percent of the territory. Photo: Government Administration.

Russia continues to occupy Georgia and since then the country has to avoid a “lot of provocations” and manage the ‘borderisation’ process, as well as “many other problems”, Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Wednesday at a joint press conference with Germany’s chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Garibashvili said Russia’s “unjustified” aggression and large-scale war in Ukraine had “radically” changed the situation in the world, including in the Black Sea Region, and noted Georgia had been the first to experience “such war” in 2008, after which Russia has occupied Georgia’s “significant part”, 20 percent of the territory, the government administration said.

I also want to say that we have given maximum support to Ukraine, we stand in solidarity with them, we have sent more than 1,000 tons of humanitarian cargo, [...] we have seconded a lot of resolutions in support of Ukraine, and we are doing our best within our capacity", noted the prime minister.
